Building Repairs

Home  /  Parish News  /  Building R...

Over the last couple of weeks, I have shared with you concerns about our parish buildings, specifically the water leaks and damage in the church and in the Great Hall. I asked for your generous support to address these issues, and I am grateful to those who have responded. However, we are still far from covering the costs of these repairs.

Members of our parish with knowledge and expertise in building maintenance helped identify a reputable contractor to investigate the damage and estimate the costs. Initial repairs to the Parish Hall will include replacing damaged wall panels and shingles, installing new copper flashing systems and wall caps, adding ice and water shielding, and re-shingling affected areas. The estimated cost for this work alone is $7,750.

The damage and cost to repair the water damage in the church and around the dome is not as easy to identify. The source of water intrusion is not yet fully understood. The contractor will need to conduct exploratory work to inspect existing flashing and underlying structures before determining the full scope of repairs. This exploratory work will include a crew of workers opening several areas around the dome, documenting existing conditions and safely closing everything back up, before developing a plan for restoration.

Preliminary work estimates include necessary sheet metal and flashing replacement starting at $15,000 to $25,000, although after the exploratory work, the cost is expected to rise significantly.

To address these known repairs, as well as potential hidden conditions and restoration of the areas that sustained water damage, the overall project is expected to cost between $65,000 and $70,000.

Through your generosity we have received $10,715 towards the cost of this project, but we have a long way to go. We need your help to ensure a safe, beautiful and long-lasting Church and Parish Center!

With Gratitude and Blessings,

Fr. William
